Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) General Secretary and Member of Parliament Gurudas Gupta shouts anti-Congress-led UPA government slogans as he takes part with others in a rally during a 24-hour industrial strike, in New Delhi on Wednesday, 19 August 2008 which has brought parts of the country to a standstill, disrupting air and rail traffic. The strike called by Left trade unions against surging inflation and the "anti-people" economic policies of the Centre turned out to be a total shutdown in the states of West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura.
