Army ex-service men sit in protest at India Gate lawns in New Delhi on Tuesday,27 May 2008.Indian military veterans staged protests nationwide to press for higher wages for defence personnel and warned the unrest could spread to combat formations if New Delhi failed to react. Ex-generals and retired soldiers staged a day-long hunger strike in New Delhi, 1.5 kilometres (miles) from the defence ministry in the first such protest in India which boasts of the world"s fourth largest military.
