District session court acquits Mridul Phukan as CBI enquiry failed to submit proper evidence of his involvement. Veteran journalist Parag Das was shot dead in city’s Rajgarh Road near Chandmari in broad daylight on May 17, 1996. The CBI, entrusted with the probe into the case, later filed the chargesheet in this connection in November 24, 2000, where it named four surrendered cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) as the prime accused.
