People throw colored powder at each other during celebrations of Holi in the northern village Nandgaon of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, India on Tuesday, 15 March 2011. In Nandgaon, people celebrate a variation of Holi, the Hindu spring festival of colors, where women beat men with sticks. Their variation is called "Lathmaar" Holi, which means beating with sticks. Holi Festival in Nandgaon begins on the tenth day (dasami) of the shukla paksha (waxing phase of moon) of Phalgun (February or March) month.
