General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) Prakash Karat addresses at a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, 24 April 2009. Karat expressed deep concern at the plight of thousands of Tamil civilians who are trapped in the war zone of northern Sri Lanka. Karat demanded Sri Lankan government should heed the call of the UN Security Council and take urgent measures, including cessation of hostilities and rescue civilians who are being forcibly held by the LTTE rebels.
