Angry mob set ablaze an office at Rani Tea estate on the outskirts of Guwahati on Monday, 22 March 2010. The incident occurred when the proprietor of Rani Tea estate, Mridul Kumar Bhattacharjee, accused physically a tribal woman and opened fired on an irate group of garden workers. A tribal woman from a nearby village was taking a short cut through the garden to reach another village when the planter caught hold of her and started beating her and also tore her clothes. A large number of locals and garden workers arrived and tried to attack the planter who then took out a licensed Pistol and fired at the mob. A 15-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured on Monday when the owner of a tea estate allegedly fired at angry protesters, who set ablaze two garden factories and the owner"s residence.
